WiChorus Enters Market with New Class of Wireless Core Services Platform that Enables Profitable, Scalable, and Media-Rich WiMAX and 4G Networks
Intelligent ASN Gateway Solution for WiMAX Allows Operators to Increase Revenues with New Services while
Reducing CapEx and OpEx

San Jose, CA, September 17, 2007—WiChorus announced today that it is entering the market with a new class of wireless core solution that enables operators to easily deploy flatter, smarter WiMAX and 4G networks that reduce CapEx and OpEx and enable new revenue-generating services. With WiChorus’ solution, operators can offer service differentiation, monitor and control network traffic, manage subscribers and services, and optimize usage of network resources. For Mobile WiMAX networks, the WiChorus intelligent Access Services Network (ASN) Gateway solution delivers advanced functionality allowing operators to deploy truly scalable, profitable WiMAX networks. WiChorus is also helping drive an open WiMAX ecosystem through its One Open WiMAX™ initiative, ensuring carriers have the ability to choose best-of-breed products for their access and core infrastructures.

WiChorus was founded by President and CEO Rehan Jalil, a veteran in the wireless industry and formerly chief architect of WiMAX for Aperto Networks.  WiChorus has assembled a world-class management and engineering team with a track record of success.  With deep and proven expertise in IP networking, WiMAX, EVDO, High-Speed Packet Data Access (HSDPA), and Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA), the team has the unique skill set required to deliver a highly differentiated core solution for the flatter, all-IP 4G World.

“All camps of cellular wireless are migrating towards an OFDMA-based, flatter, all-IP network.  These emerging 4G networks offer compelling economics for delivering media-rich, broadband services,” said Jalil. “However, to efficiently knit these OFDMA air links into a large–scale, all-IP wireless network and offer differentiated services on it requires a new class of wireless core solution. Our solution was purpose-built with these challenges in mind, providing operators with the performance, flexibility, and scalability they need to build profitable next-generation wireless networks.”

“We chose to invest in WiChorus because the company has the right management team and patent-pending technology to help operators capitalize on the growing demand for broadband wireless by providing an Intelligent Access Services Gateway Platform,” said Navin Chaddha, managing director at Mayfield Fund. “WiChorus with its first product can not only address the mobile WiMAX market in the US but also address the fixed WiMAX opportunity in emerging markets around the world.”

Enabling Profitable Mobile WiMAX Networks
Early WiMAX deployments have had limited scalability and limited ability to deliver innovative new services beyond basic broadband data. WiChorus’ advanced ASN Gateway provides service providers the ability to deliver cost-effective, large-scale networks, along with the ability to create and charge for unique services to help monetize their spectral and network investment. WiChorus’ advanced performance, content-handling capabilities, and unique wireless-aware architecture enable operators to capitalize on the growing demand for high-bandwidth applications and services.

“Leveraging an all-IP framework, advanced OFDMA air links, and an open standards-based ecosystem, Mobile WiMAX has the potential to be a disruptive force in the wireless services market.” said Monica Paolini, founder and president of Senza Fili Consulting.  “To date, much of the industry’s focus as been on the 802.16e air interface. WiChorus is taking a leadership role in developing and delivering the critical next-generation core components to transform these OFDMA air-links into large-scale, service-rich, and profitable Mobile WiMAX networks.”

Accelerating Deployment Through One Open WiMAX
Traditionally, operators have been forced to buy complex, multi-box architectures from a single vendor, which limits both technical innovation and competition, results in increased costs for operators, and locks them to a vendor. Even early WiMAX deployments have had limited flexibility due to multiple WiMAX Forum profiles and legacy wireless telecom suppliers’ lack of support for open interfaces.

To enable operators to speed deployment of mobile WiMAX networks, WiChorus is pioneering industry-wide interoperability efforts within the WiMAX Forum and with other independent vendors through its One Open WiMAX initiative.  The goal of this vendor-neutral initiative is to bring true openness to mobile core networks by promoting both the adoption of a single, open interface based on the NWG specifications and complete interoperability across the entire mobile ecosystem.

To support its One Open WiMAX initiative, WiChorus has committed significant R&D investment in software and simulation tools, creating the industry’s most extensive WiMAX Forum NWG interoperability testing capabilities available today. This effort is driving the transformation from a traditionally closed wireless core to an open, horizontal model that spurs innovation, competition, and best-of-breed choice for carriers.

To date, WiChorus has successfully completed interoperability testing products from with a number of industry-leading chip, base-station, and AAA vendors, including products from Aperto and Bridgewater Systems and Sequans-based base station platforms, among others.
