Pia, Amsterdam, June 17, 2008 –WiChorus, the leading provider of highly intelligent, scalable core platforms for 4G networks, and picoChip, a leading supplier of WiMAX™ chipsets, today announced the successful completion of interoperability testing (IOT) between WiChorus’ SmartCoreTM platform and picoChip’s PC6532 Wave 2 femtocell reference design. Through the testing process, the two companies have demonstrated seamless end-to-end connectivity between picoChip’s scalable WiMAX platform and WiChorus’ Intelligent ASN Gateway, based on the WiMAX Forum®’s Network Working Group (NWG) Specification. The companies are further collaborating on best-of-breed; end-to-end; micro-, pico-, and femtocell solutions with WiChorus Intelligent ASN Gateway and Home Agent products. This collaboration represents a significant step toward delivering on the promise of an open WiMAX ecosystem that offers mobile operators greater flexibility and innovative solutions that can broaden the reach of WiMAX-based services. “As mobile operators begin to build out their WiMAX infrastructure to meet coverage, capacity, and cost requirements, they plan to leverage micro and pico base-station solutions,” said Rehan Jalil, president and CEO of WiChorus. “Their ability to select open, innovative, and best-of-breed technology will be a key requirement to build out a cost-effective WiMAX infrastructure. By working with leading companies in the WiMAX market, such as picoChip, WiChorus is offering mobile operators an easy path to open and compelling end-to-end solutions.” picoChip provides embedded technology for WiMAX base stations, scalable from a single-chip femtocell through to high-performing macrocells. Micro-, pico-, and femtocell base stations are gaining momentum among mobile operators as a lower-cost solution for delivering high-speed mobile services. WiChorus’ Gateway products provide centralized coordination and management of hundreds of thousands of such base stations, reducing the cost and complexity of managing them and ensuring optimal overall network performance. “Our commitment to delivering complete, high-quality silicon solutions that are designed to work seamlessly with all WiMAX products has made picoChip’s chipsets the de facto standard in the WiMAX market,” said Guillaume d’Eyssautier, president and CEO, picoChip. “Through interoperability with leading vendors like WiChorus, we are delivering high-performing, fully interoperable solutions that will accelerate the efficient roll-out of WiMAX networks and high-value 4G services.” WiChorus has made the goal of an open ecosystem a reality through its participation in the WiMAX Forum and its industry-leading “One Open WiMAX” initiative. The goal of this vendor-neutral initiative is to promote fully open WiMAX standards and demonstrate multi-vendor interoperability across the entire mobile ecosystem. To accelerate this process, WiChorus has invested significant R&D resources in providing test and simulation tools, advanced test-lab facilities, and software components to assist leading vendors in delivering fully interoperable, open, Mobile WiMAX solutions. WiChorus and picoChip recently participated in interoperability testing of their current platforms and will continue to work together on a joint IOT program to ensure that the mobile WiMAX experience is simplified and seamless for partners, vendors, and mobile operators.
