Wintegra and WiChorus Demonstrate Open Austin, TX May 20, 2008 – Wintegra, a fabless semiconductor company and leading provider of silicon and software solutions for WiMAX 802.16e and LTE base stations, and WiChorus, provider of the industry’s most scalable Intelligent Wireless Core Platforms for WiMAX™ and LTE networks today announced the successful completion of interoperability testing (IOT) between WiChorus’ Intelligent ASN gateway and Wintegra’s Mobile WiMAX base station technology. WiChorus and Wintegra demonstrated seamless end-to-end connectivity between Wintegra’s base station technology platform and WiChorus’ Intelligent ASN Gateway, based on the R6 interface within the WiMAX Forum’s NWG Specification. WiChorus provides a new class of intelligent wireless core platform that enables service providers to deploy large scale, profitable WiMAX and LTE (long term evolution) networks. “WiChorus has continued to show commitment to build an open eco-system for best-of-breed WiMAX,” said Rehan Jalil President and CEO of WiChorus. “We are excited to partner with Wintegra and have them join our One Open WiMax initiative. This testing offers our ASN-Gateway and Home Agent customers significant added value by allowing them to get their services to market more quickly by helping to realize the promise of WiMax as a truly open and interoperable standard. We view Wintegra, with their many base station design wins worldwide as a key partner for this type of integration activity.” The partnership also benefits Wintegra’s silicon customers by allowing them the ability to accelerate their time to market for their WiMax base station products. Wintegra and WiChorus have worked to integrate and test their solutions as part of the Wintegra WiMAX 1.0 production release. Wintegra will continue to invest in WiMAX technology to develop new “cutting-edge” WiMAX features. Wintegra are planning a follow up WiMAX 1.1 production release during the second half of this year that will add to the feature set already supported. WiChorus and Wintegra will continue to work together on a joint IOT program to ensure that the mobile WiMAX experience is simplified and seamless for partners, vendors, and mobile operators. In addition, the two companies are collaborating on a similar initiative for LTE. “OFDMA 4G technologies are now starting to be deployed around the world”, said Mike Phillip, the GM of Wireless Systems at Wintegra. “We expect that the schedule for successful specification and deployment of LTE equipment will be significantly accelerated from traditional 2G and 3G cellular deployments. As such, the telecommunications equipment manufacturers are looking for platforms that minimize the risk in deploying these newer, flatter network architectures and the partnership to test interoperability we have with WiChorus is a key factor in aiding this success”. The One Open WiMAX initiative is helping to ensure fully open WiMAX standards, including the adoption of a single open R6 interface, and demonstrate multi-vendor interoperability across the entire mobile ecosystem. WiChorus and Wintegra are making the goal of an open ecosystem a reality ensuring service providers have the option to combine best-of-breed equipment to build their networks through their participation in the WiMAX Forum and the One Open WiMAX initiative.
