LTE EPC - The Bedrock of LTE Networks

EPC, the Evolved Packet Core, is the all-IP mobile core network for 3GPP LTE. A differentiated EPC forms the bedrock for offering innovative new services, enabling new business models over all-IP LTE networks and running the LTE networks optimally. The EPC in 3GPP Rel 8 brings radical changes in the underlying requirements to build a differentiated LTE mobile core network, requireing a new breed of 4G platforms.   Apart from enabling LTE networks, EPC also allows interworking with non-3GPP access network.  WiChorus, a Tellabs Company, industry leading SmartCore 4G platforms are purpose-built to build world-class Evolved Packet Core networks.

  • Powerful bearer plane performance needed for LTE networks
  • Highly distributed design to offer massive control plane performance
  • Fully integrated and tightly coupled L7 capabilities to offer network optimizations and content monetization capabilities
  • Extensive hierarchical service flow based architecture to offer service enablement and QoE. In LTE, all realtime and non-realtime services, including voice will need to run over IP and extensive service flows based design is needed
  • Intra Chassis load-balancing for ease of operation
  • Stateful reliability and redundancy of mobile subscriber state
  • LTE

SmartCore platforms support following functions for EPC:

LTE EPC is offered on a range of SmartCore platforms, including 9180, 9160 and 9140, to meet the demand of various network size and deployment models.
