Fixed & Nomadic
Many service providers have been successfully deploying fixed WiMAX networks based on pre-standard or IEEE 802.16d technology. With the emergence of 802.16e and Mobile WiMAX many of these service providers are now interested in leveraging equipment based on these newer standards, even if their initial application may be for fixed deployments. Such “fixed” Mobile WiMAX deployments provide service providers investment protection if they chose to add nomadic for full mobility services down the road, the ability to take advantage of advances in 802.16e air link performance, and enables operators to tap a potentially larger competitive market for vendor equipment, as the projected volume for Mobile WiMAX appears to be much larger than 802.16d fixed WiMAX.
Leveraging WiChorus’ Intelligent ASN Gateway solution for fixed deployments provides the following benefits:
- WiMAX Forum-compliant end-to-end infrastructure, including standard authentication, service flow creation, and QoS
- Enables best-of-breed choices for infrastructure equipment, including base stations, ASN Gateways and AAA servers
- Value-added content management, including peer-to-peer traffic management, and content-based services
- Reduced OpEx from backhaul and spectral optimizations
- Future proof migration to nomadic or fully mobile services
With WiChorus Intelligent ASN Gateways service providers can build a future-proof backend network that delivers significant value today, while allowing an easy migration path to portable and mobile WiMAX services.
